Dan Horwitz joins Host Denise Griffitts to finish up our previous conversation on Championship Culture. You can hear that conversation here.Daniel Horwitz serves as a leadership consultant and assists sports teams and companies to help improve and enhance productivity, trust, communication, accountability, teamwork, diversity & inclusion, culture, etc.
Many life lessons can be taught using sports as a platform. As a coach, accumulating knowledge on culture and disseminating that knowledge to players can have a long-lasting impact. As a player, you have the ability to maximize your leadership skills, as well as help promote a team environment that will bring out the best in everyone, including yourself.
Having a growth mindset—the ability to believe you can learn and improve from every situation—is important in building a championship culture. In his new book 'Help Them Up: 14 Principles to Educate, Energize, and Empower Your Team to Build a Championship Basketball Culture' Daniel says that if a team collectively takes these 14 Principles and implements them as the foundation of their culture, it will create an environment where:
1. Every player will feel safe, supported, and cared for by coaches and teammates
2. Every player will feel valued
3. Every player will have a voice
4. Every player will feel JOY
5. Every player will improve leadership skills
