"Do It Twice" — The Accidental Motto of a Solo Podcaster By Denise Griffitts

When I started podcasting 17 years ago - yes this podcast is old enough to drive - I felt completely overextended and absolutely out of my league. And frankly? I screwed things up all the time. “Do it twice” became less of a choice and more of a survival tactic.

There was the time I published the wrong audio file — twice. Or the time I interviewed a guest only to discover I hadn’t actually hit record. Classic. And let’s not talk about the early days of editing, which felt like trying to perform surgery with oven mitts. (Still does some days...)

Every step of the way, I was the tech support, the host, the editor, the scheduler, and the backup plan. There was no team. No production house. Just me, Google, and a growing list of things I had to figure out by doing them wrong first.

But here’s the truth: podcasting isn’t about being perfect. It’s about showing up. Consistently. Authentically. Willing to learn as you go. The polish comes later—after a few hundred “do it twice” (or if you are feeling salty, Oh Shit! moments.)

So if you’re out there thinking about starting a podcast but feel like you have no idea what you’re doing, let me save you some time: you don’t. None of us did. But if you're willing to make mistakes and show up anyway, you'll be in excellent company.

And if all else fails, just remember: do it twice — it’s practically tradition.
