SW Louisiana Hard Freeze Prep: Bread, Eggs, Firewood, and Cats Under Blankets (Because the Power Will Go Out)
SW Louisiana is staring down a hard freeze in a few days, which means our hardy citizens will soon participate in the time-honored local tradition: Clearing the grocery shelves of milk, bread, and beer. If it gets desperate enough, they MIGHT buy #BudLite, but it's doubtful. We hold grudges down here.
I’ve been down this road (hello, hurricane prep), so I didn’t panic. This morning I ordered groceries online for delivery… which mostly worked.
Ordered bananas. Got the last one. (Yes, one banana. Like it was a limited-edition collectible.)
Ordered multiple cans of evaporated milk. Got one. Apparently, evaporated milk is now a luxury item.
Still, I’m ahead of the game:
✅ Baked bread
✅ Boiled eggs (because when the power goes out, protein matters)
✅Hauled firewood to the covered front porch like I’m auditioning for “Little House on the Bayou”
And yes… I’m fully expecting the power to go down.
We’re surrounded by water down here: Gulf of America, Atchafalaya Swamp, bayous, rivers, coulees. Ice is no joke, so we hunker down and wait it out.
If you’re in a freeze zone this week, here’s your friendly reminder: prep early, stay off icy roads, and if you see me clutching my one banana… mind your business. 😄
